Fuso creates 300+ jobs for CASE transition and Hino merger

Posted on: July 17, 2025

The trucking industry worldwide is undergoing a major technological shift known as CASE – vehicles that are Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric. This transformation is changing how trucks are designed, built and operated, creating new challenges and fresh opportunities for the sector. FleetWatch welcomes Mitsubishi Fuso’s latest job creation drive for 300+ new employees as a strong example of how innovation can drive job creation in a fast-evolving market.

Fuso embarks on its biggest-ever hiring drive

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) is opening its doors to new talent – on a scale not seen before in the company’s history. The Japanese commercial vehicle manufacturer, now preparing for integration with Hino Motors, has launched its largest mid-career recruitment campaign to date, with over 300 permanent jobs currently available.

The drive spans Japan, Portugal and the UAE, with further roles expected once the planned merger with Hino gains full traction from April 2026. The push comes as Fuso gears up to meet the sweeping transformation brought on by driver shortages and CASE technologies that are reshaping how trucks are built, maintained and operated worldwide, demanding new skills in software, automation, electric drivetrains and smart logistics.

“To stay competitive in a CASE-driven world, we’re strengthening our capabilities across every link in the chain,” says MFTBC. The company is looking for internationally experienced professionals across R&D, supply chain, quality, procurement, international sales and aftersales, IT, finance, compliance and HR. It’s a wide net that reflects the scale of change currently sweeping the industry.

With operations in 170 markets and a workforce representing over 65 nationalities, MFTBC says its global culture is an asset as it adapts to CASE. Around 1 100 of its 10 000+ employees are non-Japanese and the company has supported remote work since 2014 – long before it became the global norm.

While CASE brings big technical challenges, Fuso’s hiring blitz shows it’s also a chance to inject fresh energy into a sector often seen as slow to adapt. And in a world where digitisation can sound like a job-killer, this recruitment push is a welcome reminder that innovation still needs people. Lots of them.

Editor’s comment: The Mitsubishi Fuso hiring surge is a timely reminder that the shift toward CASE technologies is not just a challenge but also an opportunity for Southern Africa’s commercial vehicle sector. As the region grapples with skills shortages and the need to modernise fleets, initiatives like this signal the growing importance of upskilling and attracting talent attuned to rapidly evolving truck technologies. For Southern African operators and suppliers, staying plugged into these global shifts will be key to remaining competitive and ready for the future of trucking.
