As global corporates sharpen their focus on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) – even amid the complexity of a major global merger – the shift is increasingly visible not just in policy statements but in operational leadership. At Daimler Truck Southern Africa (DTSA), the elevation of Mpho Matseba to Head of Fuso Trucks Southern Africa aligns with this broader movement, while reinforcing continuity in a critical business unit.
Matseba steps into the role following her tenure as Head of Fuso Sales from August 2024 to March 2026, where she played a key role in strengthening commercial performance and deepening customer and dealer relationships.
Her new mandate places the full Fuso division under her leadership locally, spanning strategy, sales and marketing, customer experience, parts and after-sales, supply chain and the end-to-end value chain.
With a 21-year career within the organisation, Matseba brings deep institutional knowledge across both Fuso and the broader Daimler Truck business. Her leadership approach is grounded in operational execution, partnership-driven growth and sustained customer value – critical factors in a market defined by tight margins and uptime sensitivity.
Fuso in the bigger picture
The appointment comes hot on the heels of the global Daimler Truck-Toyota merger. From April 2026, Daimler Truck AG and Toyota Motor Corporation will integrate Hino Motors, Ltd. and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation under a new holding entity, ARCHION Group.
Despite this, DTSA stresses that the local operating model remains unchanged.
There are no changes to Fuso’s operations, dealer network or after-sales support across Southern Africa. The brand continues to operate as an integral part of DTSA, with business proceeding as usual in both domestic and cross-border markets – a key reassurance for operators reliant on consistent service delivery.
“I am honoured to be entrusted with the role of Head of Fuso Trucks Southern Africa and grateful for the opportunity to lead a brand with such a strong legacy in both the local and cross-border markets.
“Having worked closely with our customers and dealer network in my previous role, I look forward to building on this foundation and continuing to drive a customer-first approach as we move forward. Fuso remains a key part of DTSA and our commitment to our customers in Southern Africa remains unwavering,” says Matseba.
Welcoming the appointment, Maretha Gerber, President and Group CEO of DTSA, comments: “Mpho has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, deep commercial insight and a clear commitment to our customers-first in her role as Head of Marketing and most recently as Head of Fuso Sales.
“Her appointment ensures continuity and stability for the Fuso business in Southern Africa, while positioning the brand for sustained success under the DTSA umbrella. We are exceptionally proud of her decision to take on this role as we enter a new chapter for Fuso Trucks in the region.”
DTSA maintains that its focus remains firmly on delivering dependable transport solutions and sustaining long-term customer partnerships, with leadership continuity central to navigating a period of global change for the Fuso brand.
Editor’s comment: DTSA’s latest leadership appointment reflects selection on merit, of capability recognised and trusted at the highest level. Mpho Matseba steps into the role with deep institutional knowledge, proven commercial acumen and a grounded understanding of what customers and dealers need on the ground. This is a confident, forward-looking move by Daimler Truck Southern Africa – and one that positions Fuso strongly for a challenging future. Good hunting, Mpho!
