In a country where youth unemployment remains one of the defining economic challenges, meaningful corporate social investment has taken on national importance as a practical engine for skills development and job creation. Increasingly, South Africa’s most forward-thinking businesses are recognising that sustainable growth depends on cultivating talent pipelines from within the communities they serve. Against this backdrop, Cartrack has announced a strategic long-term partnership with Maharishi Invincibility Institute aimed at empowering youth from marginalised communities through education, skills development and direct pathways into employment.
The collaboration marks a significant step in aligning private sector capability with educational innovation. Cartrack, which employs more than 6 000 people locally and continues to expand, is leveraging its growth to create opportunities for young South Africans.
By integrating its internal Cartrack Academy with the Maharishi Invincibility Institute’s academic programmes, the partnership is designed to deliver a seamless journey – from foundational learning through to workplace readiness and, ultimately, sustainable employment.
From classroom to career – a structured pathway
“Our focus is on building sustainable futures and creating real opportunities for unemployed youth from marginalised communities across South Africa,” says Joshua Victor, CEO of Cartrack South Africa.
“By working closely with the Maharishi Invincibility Institute over the long term, we are able to broaden our impact by combining academic foundations with practical workplace experience. This creates a more complete pathway for young people, enabling them to move between learning and work in a structured and supportive way.”
The model reflects a growing recognition within the transport and mobility technology sectors that skills shortages cannot be solved through recruitment alone. Instead, they require deliberate, long-term investment in education systems that are closely aligned with industry needs.
Scaling impact through partnership
At a practical level, the initiative builds on the existing Cartrack Academy, which on-boards approximately 500 young people annually. Participants receive accredited SETA and QCTO qualifications, coupled with hands-on experience that prepares them for real-world demands.
Crucially, many Cartrack Academy graduates transition into permanent roles within Cartrack – reinforcing the programme’s effectiveness as a talent pipeline rather than a short-term intervention.
According to Dr Taddy Blecher, founder and CEO of the Maharishi Invincibility Institute: “We are incredibly excited to partner with Cartrack, as this collaboration allows us to expand our shared vision of empowering unemployed young people through education and skills development.
“With the Cartrack partnership, we are able to invest in our youth by providing them with access to real-world work experience alongside their academic journey.
“Partnerships like this are essential in creating sustainable pathways to employment, and we are proud to work together to unlock opportunities and build brighter futures for South Africa’s youth.”
Editor’s comment: In an economy under pressure, where logistics, mobility and technology sectors are all grappling with skills gaps, this kind of CSI stands out for its direct relevance to industry sustainability. Cartrack’s approach moves beyond philanthropy into something far more strategic – a closed-loop system that identifies, trains and absorbs talent. For fleet operators and transport businesses watching the broader labour landscape, the message is clear: the future workforce will not simply appear – it must be built, deliberately and collaboratively.
