Chinese truck manufacturers are increasingly visible in South Africa and Ever Star Industries (ESI) is a prime example of their growing influence. The company’s Pietermaritzburg assembly plant has just produced its 10 000th Powerstar truck, a milestone that underscores both the durability of the brand and the expanding role of Chinese-designed vehicles in local fleets.
Since launching in 2006 with a single production line, ESI has steadily grown, navigating limited sales opportunities and operational challenges to become a recognised player in the market.
Each truck reflects years of incremental innovation and a focus on quality, now enhanced by the launch of PowerTech, a telematics system developed with Khulu Digital and fitted as standard on every new Powerstar.
The system provides fleet operators with tools for fuel tracking, driver monitoring, geo zone limits, service scheduling and automated reporting, all aimed at reducing downtime, improving safety and simplifying fleet oversight.
This milestone also carries a community angle: the 10 000th truck will be auctioned through the dealer network, with all profits donated to a charity of the buyer’s choice. It’s a reminder that growth and responsibility can go hand in hand.
FleetWatch extends its congratulations to the team at ESI for reaching this landmark. From a single line in 2006 to a fully connected fleet today, it’s a testament to persistence, innovation and commitment to operators. South Africa’s trucking industry benefits when manufacturers deliver both quality trucks and the tools to run them smarter. Here’s to the next 10 000 Powerstars.
