The ‘butchers, bakers and candlestick makers’ of South Africa will now be able to have full visibility and management of their vehicles via the new Netstar Fleet Tracker.

The days of small businesses running a couple of vehicles and not paying attention to managing those vehicles are gone. Operational costs have gone through the roof so any company which regards its small vehicle fleet as a side-line not requiring management input is losing out big time. Those vehicles are cost centres and if managed correctly, will improve the overall bottom line.

It will thus come as good news to the ‘butchers, bakers and candlestick makers’ of South Africa that Netstar, a subsidiary of Altron, has applied its experience with large fleets to launch Netstar Fleet Tracker, a software solution which offers fleet-tracking technology for owners of small-business fleets in a simple, yet powerful and inexpensive package. This package now makes it simple for small-business owners to track their drivers affordably – and to save on fuel. It comes complete with a quick-and-easy, on-line sign-up process.

The new software solution offers an opportunity for small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to improve their efficiencies despite a perfect storm of business difficulties – soaring fuel prices, rising input costs, crime, staff issues and overburdened infrastructure. Netstar Fleet Tracker makes it easier for small businesses to pick an “off-the-shelf” solution that suits their needs.

“Small businesses in the transport and mobility space face several challenges keeping an eye on their fleets,” says Nicky Sheridan, Netstar Executive: Sales. “With fuel prices going through the roof, and tight margins, it’s essential to choose the best routes and to monitor driver safety and behaviour. Netstar Fleet Tracker helps provide this.”

The new solution is aimed at businesses running fleets of 15 vehicles or fewer, and is affordably priced, at R173 per month (excl. VAT).

“With Netstar Fleet Tracker, we’re providing an accessible fleet solution for businesses such as plumbers, electricians, florists and others,” says Sheridan. “It is also ideal for office fleets supporting businesses like legal services. It allows SMMEs to manage their fleet budgets and to easily quote delivery times for customers.”

Netstar Fleet Tracker was designed with a focus on ease-of-use. It allows small-business owners to sign up online and to self-schedule fitment of their fleet. Full visibility and management of all their vehicles are provided on the MyNetstar app, which can easily be accessed online.

Fleet tracking and management has already become an integral part of running a modern business, and a recent survey predicts that the number of fleet-management systems in active use in South Africa will reach 3.6 million by 2026.

Getting small businesses into the telematics net is the right way to go. Many small businesses are facing huge problems in this stressed economic climate and there is no doubt that by incorporating a telematics solution such as this will add more Rand to their bottom lines.
