While Charl Schwartzel, Retief Goosen and other great golfers of their ilk get the limelight in tournaments like the Jo’burg Open and Africa Open, working hard behind the scenes are a fleet of trucks that make possible the many tournaments run by the Sunshine Tour, the men’s professional golf tour based in southern Africa. On this front, the good news is that UD Trucks Southern Africa has now become the official supplier of commercial vehicles to the Sunshine Tour.
For the next two years, the UD Trucks will be used to move the Sunshine Tour from one venue to the next, ensuring the smooth transport of all equipment and logistics associated with an event of this magnitude. “As we are continuing to invest in and expand our representative footprint across southern Africa, we are proud to be associated with a sporting competition of this calibre,’ says Johan Richards, chief executive of UD Trucks Southern Africa.
We believe our vehicles are perfectly suited to the strenuous demands that will be placed on them as the Sunshine Tour travels thousands of kilometres to all the corners of the region. The inherent strength of the UD Trucks range, proven through extensive testing, makes them ideal trucks to get the job done.’ The Sunshine Tour is one of the six leading men’s tours which make up the International Federations of PGA Tours, and is run through all twelve months of the year with the 2011 season having kicked off at the Africa Open. A number of tournaments are also played outside of South Africa during the year, including Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Zambia.
In addition, UD Trucks Southern Africa is also investing in the future of a promising golfer hailing from Zimbabwe. He is Tich Musemburi, currently an active player on the professional tour players’ division of the Sunshine Tour. “Sport, and specifically golf, is a great passion of many of our staff members and customers. As we actively live by our brand values of being dependable, professional and passionate in everything we do, we are therefore very excited to be a preferred supplier of the Sunshine Tour,’ says Richards.
