Small but impactful – the new Mix Vision consists of a tamper-resistant camera unit attached to the inside of the vehicle’s windscreen and houses two cameras: one road-facing and one driver-facing.

MiX Telematics, a leading global provider of fleet and mobile asset management solutions delivered as software-as-a-service, has started the international roll-out of MiX Vision, a highly configurable video recording system that integrates with MiX Telematics’ fleet management solution comprising FM-Web and the FM Communicator.

“With this powerful solution, video footage of the driver and his view of the road is captured simultaneously thereby enabling fleet managers to assess the circumstances at the time of an actual or reported incident,’ says Gert Pretorius, managing director of MiX Telematics (Africa Fleet Solutions).

“MiX Vision places operators at the scene and will prove invaluable for fleet operators who want to enhance driver behaviour, improve safety and reduce costs relating to false claims.’

MiX Vision consists of a tamper-resistant camera unit that is attached to the inside of the vehicle’s windscreen and houses two cameras: one road-facing and one driver-facing. This integrates with the FM Communicator so that when an event occurs , such as harsh braking, over-speeding or a collision , the system triggers the automatic upload of two 15-second low-resolution video clips, one showing the driver and one showing the road.

Fleet managers have access to all footage at the end of each completed trip and high-resolution versions of the clips are available at the touch of a button. Customers can also choose to download segments of high-resolution video clips recorded on a 72-hour rolling buffer.

“Notably, the event triggers are highly configurable, which means that our customers have the freedom to predetermine any driving event for which they would like to record video footage,’ says Pretorius.

As well as assisting operators to reduce costs, MiX Vision helps to protect drivers in cases where they were not at fault. The footage can also be leveraged for driver training initiatives.

“MiX Vision is a further demonstration of our focus on delivering value to fleet owners, through innovative and reliable tools that help make their fleets safer and more efficient,’ says Pretorius.
