What an incredible turnout! The recent Brake & Tyre Watch training event, held on October 11th and 12th, 2023, in the Donkerhoek district, was a resounding success. A total of 64 dedicated Traffic Officials gathered to enhance their knowledge and skills in ensuring road safety.
A Practical Day of Impact
The practical day, which took place at the Donkerhoek Weighbridge, was a highlight of the event. During this hands-on session, six trucks underwent thorough inspections. The results were a testament to the importance of such initiatives: five of the trucks were discontinued due to non-compliance, with one receiving a fine. These actions demonstrate the significance of ongoing vigilance in keeping our roads safe.
Empowering Transport Operators
The essence of this initiative is to raise awareness among transport operators regarding efficient braking systems, fifth wheels, suspension, and tyre checks. It also emphasises the importance of preventative maintenance for trucks.
Specialised Knowledge for Traffic Officials
This event goes beyond just educating transport operators. It’s designed to empower Traffic Officials with specialised knowledge. This enables them to be more effective in their roles, intervening more frequently and ensuring that unroadworthy trucks are promptly removed from the roads.
The Visual Evidence
To give you a glimpse into the rigorous inspections carried out by the Traffic Officials, we’ve included some images below. These visuals provide a clear picture of the various faults identified on the vehicles during the second day of the event.
Trucking Wellness: Caring for Drivers
On the second day of the event, Daimler Trucks Southern Africa made an impactful contribution by including Trucking Wellness. They conducted health screenings for over 30 individuals, checking everything from blood pressure to cholesterol. Each patient left with a Daimler Trucks Southern Africa gift bag, highlighting the importance of caring for the well-being of our truck drivers.
