FleetWatch doesn’t normally cover the internal celebrations of various companies in our industry but this one caught our attention – and here’s why.
We’re living in a world of rapid change not only in terms of technology but in almost every aspect of our lives. Social media seems to have over-ridden enduring commitments and relationships where even the word ‘Instagram’ implies a quick, ‘instant’ glimpse of a subject or event before quickly moving on to the next ‘post’. There’s no longevity. No building of relationships. You merely scan. You seldom absorb.
In this fast paced climate, the old 25-years-service gold watch has disappeared which is a pity as a steadfast relationship and solid commitment implies strength rather than weakness. To find a company that defies this new norm and not only values long service but celebrates it, is refreshing. And that is why we’re highlighting this story – and Bandag is the company.
As mentioned, long service and loyalty is rare in today’s business environment but Bandag has historically been privileged to work with a strong and loyal franchise network. This was exhibited at the company’s 2023 franchise conference held this year at Sun City with more than 120 people attending the conference and Gala Awards evening.
Following the disruption brought on by COVID-19, the macro and micro economic factors impacting on South Africa and other global socio-political events such as the war on Ukraine, Bandag themed its conference – REIMAGINE.
After dealing with the business side of things in the conference where new innovations were introduced to further enhance its offerings to Bandag franchisees and fleet customers, it was then onto the gala evening where people, rather than innovations, came under the spotlight.
Long Service Awards handed out this year ranged from the Bandag Truck Service (BTS) Franchise 5 years award through to the BTS 20 years award. For the Bandag Manufacturing Franchise awards, the longevity ranged from 5 years through to – wait for it – 50 years which was awarded to Protea Tyres Ermelo and to SPBR, Reunion. The various franchisees spanned right across South Africa as well as cross-border.
The awards evening was also used to reveal Bandag’s Quest for Gold (QFG) winners, which is Bandag’s way of rewarding franchisees that excel in delivering the Bandag Package of Value (POV). And how’s this. The incentive trip for this year’s QFG winners was announced as an all-inclusive trip to Croatia.
Bandag also awarded two Director’s Awards with Protea Tyres Ermelo and Swazi Bandag being recognised for their loyalty to Bandag as well as their remarkable achievements despite the many challenges that each business has faced and overcome.
FleetWatch congratulates all the winners but more so, congratulates Bandag. Longevity is a precious rarity in today’s business landscape and your dedication to it is truly commendable. Long may it reign!
