Following the success of the inaugural MasterDrive Fleet Safety Awards last year, the event is now back for a second year with a number of new innovations and developments and two new headline sponsors, Santam Heavy Haulage Insurance and Castrol throwing their weight behind the programme.

The awards were launched last year as a means of recognising fleet managers and companies for their dedication and hard work in promoting road safety in South Africa.

In addition to the top two categories of  Best Fleet Manager and Best Company, three new categories have been added to the 2023 awards to further recognise individuals and companies for their efforts in promoting road safety. They are Road Warrior, Best Employer and Best Truck Stop.

Eugene Herbert, CEO of MasterDrive, explains: “Road Warrior will recognise a driver who embodies road safety while Best Employer is for companies that invest in their drivers’ safety on the roads. Best Truck Stop is to show appreciation for rest stops that go the extra mile for long-haul drivers.”

Speaking at the recent launch event for the 2023 awards, Anton Cornelissen, head of Santam Heavy Haulage Insurance, said the partnership with MasterDrive embraced a shared passion and commitment towards road safety and raising awareness with regards to any aspect affecting the logistics industry in South Africa.

“Our partnership enables us to reach more people and organisations than we can individually. We are now reaching more than just our clients to promote our values,” he said.

Jennifer Heyes, marketing director Africa for Castrol, was also at the event and said that to promote road safety as the gold standard across South Africa, the buy-in of each citizen is needed. “The Fleet Safety Awards is an important way of achieving this. It will motivate and inspire other fleet managers and organisations to follow in the footsteps of others who achieve success at the Awards.”
