The last units of a multi-million Rand order placed in 2020 – one of Serco’s biggest and most significant deals last year – have been delivered. The order was for 28 refrigerated vehicles for Sequence Logistics, a national transport company which provides temperature-controlled distribution, warehousing, and supply chain services throughout the country.
The 24 state-of-the-art Protec Steel Frostliner trailers and four truck bodies are all now in use transporting frozen and fresh food throughout South Africa from the company’s branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
Gerhard Coetzee, finance director of Sequence Logistics, is highly pleased with these new acquisitions saying that after looking at all the options on the market, the full order was given to Serco as “overall, they offered the most”. He added that the purchases were part of the company’s fleet replacement and expansion programme which is being pursued aggressively so further business could be in the pipeline for Serco.
“What really impresses us is the technology Serco is using. The Protec steel panels are definitely the feature and the technology needed for a better solution for the long term which is exactly what we want,” says Coetzee,
New signage has been branded on all the trailers by Iconic Solutions while the majority of the fridge units were installed by GEA. Serco sales representative who handled the deal, Corine Opperman, says one of the biggest challenges had been to meet the set delivery deadline. “The team worked hard to meet the deadline.”
CEO of Serco, Clinton Holcroft, says that with not a lot of business being around last year, there had been hectic competition for the Sequence Logistics contract. “So I see it as a feather in our cap that after appraising all the different options available, they decided the value proposition we offered was the best and they gave us the complete order.”
It’s a great looking fleet and with the final units now delivered, it marks a good beginning for Serco as it moves into 2021.
