The big heart of the trucking industry continues to shine as highlighted by Daimler Truck Southern Africa (DTSA) recently handing over a cheque of R500 000 to the Gift of the Givers Foundation as a donation toward humanitarian relief for victims of the floods in KZN.

“This donation provides communities in extremely dire situations some relief but more importantly, it also shows that corporates operating in South Africa care and are with them in spirit and deed. Our deepest gratitude is conveyed to the DTSA family from each person that will be touched by this donation,” said Badr Kazi, Director Gift of the Givers Foundation.

As Kazi pointed out, thousands of lives have been shattered by the recent storms in KwaZulu-Natal creating a swath of destruction to homes and infrastructure and the monetary donation received will go toward humanitarian relief in the form of food, blankets, and bed mattresses.

Michael Dietz, President and CEO of Daimler Truck Southern Africa said he is particularly pleased to be a part of an organisation that plays a vital role in supporting humanitarian causes such as this.

“This initiative illustrates what we stand for as a company and further aligns with our on-going commitment to supporting the communities in which we operate. Our partnership with the Gift of the Givers Foundation continues to grow from strength to strength and to date, DTSA has contributed R1-million to their on-going national disaster relief initiatives. We hope our contribution brings some relief to the flood victims and I look forward to seeing the communities begin the long process of rebuilding their lives, recover and flourish in the future”.

The Gift of the Givers Foundation is the largest non-governmental disaster response organisation of African origin on the African continent. Since its inception in 1992, the organisation has been responsible for the delivery of life-saving goods and on-the-ground support for innumerable people – collectively valued at some R3.8-billion – in more than 45 countries across the globe, including South Africa. The foundation restores the hope and dignity of the most vulnerable in their time of need, rebuilding prosperous communities and empowering leaders of tomorrow.

Salute to DTSA for their support.
