FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), has announced the launch of Dangerous goods (DG) shipping services from an additional eight European countries to South Africa. The countries are Denmark, France, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
The extension of the service, originally launched in September 2019, means that FedEx now provides an express, door-to-door, customs-cleared service from more than 60 DG- compliant countries to South Africa and to more than 80 DG-compliant destinations from the country.
Dangerous goods are items or substances that could pose a risk to health, safety, property or the environment if not properly handled, stored or transported. They need to be packed properly, handled carefully and shipped by expert handlers to help ensure they arrive safely at their destination. South African customers that operate in these sectors can rely on the FedEx Express DG solution to provide safe and flexible door-to-door delivery service.
“With nearly 30 years of experience in shipping dangerous goods, FedEx now provides a secure, quick and reliable worldwide service for their specialized items to more countries than ever,” says André Bresler, managing director of FedEx Express in Southern Africa.
Dangerous goods can be shipped using the FedEx International Priority® (up to 68kg per shipment) or FedEx International Priority® Freight (between 68kg to 1,000kg for each freight shipment) shipping solutions.
