Serco has supplied a specialised tautliner body for use by an international food company to deliver products throughout South Africa. The unit was built on order from Key Vehicle Management which has a long term contract with the Kerry Group – a major international food corporation with its headquarters in Dublin.

The Kerry Group is described as providing the largest, most innovative portfolio of taste and nutrition technologies, systems and functional ingredients for the global food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. Its consumer foods division, Kerry Foods, is also a leading consumer foods processor and supplier to international markets.

Fleet Director at Key Vehicle Management, Hennie Botha, says Kerry Foods wanted a vehicle which could carry large volumes of palletised goods by making optimum use of the available interior space.

The double stacking system enables multiple pallets to be stacked on top of each other allowing for larger volumes than usual to be transported.

“I previously worked with Serco on quite a few development projects so I decided to approach them to come up with a solution. Serco did just that and built a truck with a highly specialised double stacking system which makes provision for multiple pallets to be stacked on top of each other, allowing for larger volumes than usual to be transported,” says Botha.

Both Key Vehicle Management and Kerry Foods were pleased with the final product as it had radically improved efficiencies and reduced transport costs.
