Meet Lekau (Solly) Letsoalo, the new Chief Executive Officer and executive director of Cargo Carriers. He has big trucking boots to fill but the board of directors is confident that he will fill them well. Welcome to our industry ‘Solly’.

There’s a new Chief Executive Officer at Cargo Carriers. He is Lekau (Solly) Letsoalo who took up the position as CEO and executive director of the company in January. Murray Bolton – son of the late Des Bolton, founder of Cargo Carriers – will remain available to the company to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

According to a statement issued by the board of directors of Cargo Carriers, Letsoalo is a senior business executive with extensive and varied executive and board level experience having worked as managing director of Aveng Manufacturing, Chief Operating Officer of Transnet Port Terminals and as director, Inbound Logistics at Nampak

The statement describes Letsoalo as a dynamic and successful leader with strong strategic leadership experience and a track record of delivering shareholder value, both in South Africa and internationally.

“The board welcomes Solly to Cargo Carriers and looks forward to working with him to steer the business towards its next stage of growth and profitability.”

Wow, that’s the end of an era because, apart from a short spell after Des Bolton’s death when Patrick Murray – if I recall correctly – headed the company for a while, there has always been a Bolton in the position of CEO.

The company itself is a legend in the industry with a colourful history of achievement. I’ll never forget the glass display in front of the Elandsfontein head-office where the company’s very first truck was housed. I’ll also never forget the pub in the head-office where many a jovial night was spent with some great trucking characters.

Welcome to our industry ‘Solly’. May you lead the company into as exciting and dynamic a future as has been its exciting and dynamic past.
