The highly popular Annual Road Transport Legislation Workshop is once again hitting the road this year starting on May 23rd in Stellenbosch, then moving to Durban on May 25th with the last session being held in Pretoria at the CSIR on June 8th.

This is the 18th annual workshop run by the well respected Alta Swanepoel, road traffic and transport legislation consultant (Alta Swanepoel & Associates) and editor of LexisNexis Road Traffic and Transport legislation. This year’s speakers and topics are as follows:

Alta Swanepoel: Topic:  Update on Road Traffic and Transport legislation. Alta will delve into the National Road Traffic Act and Regulations, transport policy developments and the draft amendments to the relevant transport and traffic legislation. AARTO and SANRAL amendments and proposed amendments will also be discussed as will ggeneral issues relating to the transportation of dangerous goods, road traffic and transport matters and general questions and answers relating to transport matters.

Max Braun: Consultant in transport management, distribution and logistics consultant (MB Consulting Services) and correspondent to FleetWatch magazine. Topic:  The Voice of the Operator. A summary of the views and perceptions expressed by a cross-section of transporters, transport managers and fleet owners in discussion with Max Braun

Dr Paul Nordengen: Principal Researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa (CSIR). Topic: The Smart Truck (PBS) Pilot Project: Paul will discuss the objectives, rules and guidance for participation in the project, monitoring results from the project: kilometres saved, fuel consumption and emission improvements, crash statistics, as well as the way forward for the project.

Neville Dingle: Mandatum, Specialists in Transport Law, Policy and Administration and Institution Building. Topic: Update on the National Land Transport Amendment Bill, 2017: Neville will detail amendments made to the National Land Transport Act 5 of 2009 by the Amendment Bill and their implications; amendments to and consolidation of the National Land Transport Regulations, 2009

Apart from being updated on valuable and pertinent issues that affect transport operators, each delegate will receive an electronic or printed version of the National Road Traffic Act Compilation as well as the presentations of the speakers as part of the workshop fee.
