A delighted Gerald Kumalo who completed his Diploma in Human Resources Management at Damelin College with Ntsakisi Mkhize, Human Resources Manager at Voith. His studies were made possible via the Voith Turbo Bursaries for Children of Employees Programme. Well done to all.

Here’s a warm story emanating from the Voith Turbo Bursaries for Children of Employees Programme which was established in 2012 with the objective of providing financial assistance towards the education of children of Voith Turbo employees at primary, secondary or tertiary level academic institutions.

An example of the success of this scheme is Gerald Kumalo, who completed his Diploma in Human Resources Management at Damelin College in February 2016. Kumalo is the nephew of an employee who has been in the company for six years. At the time he was studying towards his matric with the bursary going towards funding these studies.

Kumalo was keen on furthering his studies in the Human Resources field, a career choice he discussed in-depth with the Voith HR team.

“Gerald already knew at the time that HR was his passion. However, he wanted to hear from the perspective of professionals who had already gained extensive experience within the field,” says Ntsakisi Mkhize, Human Resources Manager at Voith.

Prior to him graduating, the institution required him to complete practical experience before he could be certified as being qualified. “Voith assisted by finding a company that was able to give him the necessary exposure,” says Mkhize.

This practical experience gave Kumalo exposure to essential administrative HR tasks, such as creating and maintaining employee files, and handling confidential information. And now he has graduated.

Congratulations Gerald and well done to Voith Turbo on this magnificent initiative.
