Koos Smit has been appointed as acting Chief Executive Officer of SANRAL until the newly appointed CEO, Skhumbuzo Macozoma, takes over on 1 December 2016.

The South African National Road Agency (SANRAL) has confirmed that it has appointed Engineering Services Executive, Koos Smit, as acting Chief Executive Officer until the newly appointed CEO, Skhumbuzo Macozoma, takes over on 1 December 2016.

This follows the retirement of Nazir Alli, who has served as CEO since the establishment of SANRAL in 1998. Alli has retired after almost two decades at the helm.

Smit has spent several years as an executive with SANRAL. His extensive experience with the agency and knowledge of the industry and its inherent challenges make him best-placed to continue steering SANRAL in the interim.

In taking up the post, Smit wished Alli well on his retirement. “We thank him for his immense contribution to the development of SANRAL and the expanding of South Africa’s road infrastructure to contribute to the economic growth of the entire region. We would like him to enjoy his retirement with his family after serving his country diligently through SANRAL.”
