DHL Supply Chain South Africa has secured a major retail contract after Pick n Pay awarded their General Merchandise Distribution (GMD) business to DHL Supply Chain.
The contract involves receiving locally procured products at the DHL Plumbago Distribution Centre (DC), the Pick n Pay GMD national stockholding DC, and the container off-loading of all imported containers at the DHL Stroud Place DC in Durban, which will then be line-hauled up to the Plumbago DC.
DHL will then distribute product through its extensive primary and secondary networks via a combination of dedicated fleet and third party service providers to Pick n Pay nationally as well as export orders to the Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland countries.
“We are proud to be continuing our partnership with Pick n Pay which started about five years ago with DHL Supply Chain jointly implementing a green fields solution with Pick n Pay in Cape Town,” says Paul Stone, DHL Supply Chain CEO Africa & MD South Africa.
“Here DHL Supply Chain successfully managed the transition from a decentralized (direct to store) business to a centralized operation and we now look forward to supporting Pick n Pay GMD business.”
