While not in line for a medal or even the coveted green number after participating in the Comrades Marathon 27 times, Imperial Truck Rental was still a major contender at the finish line of this year’s race.

Imperial Truck Rental supplied two four-ton dropside trucks to carry local and international media representatives covering the event. “These media trucks were customised for the Comrades, “says Johnny Wright, Managing Director of Imperial Truck Rental states. Built specially for the event, they featured special stands to seat the reporters and photographers, as well as exhaust attachments to lift exhaust fumes away from runners’ faces.

“We followed the front runners, the favourites and front ladies, dropping back and forth during the race,” he explains. “Each truck was manned by a driver and two assistants as this is a stressful and demanding exercise. Very focused, attentive driving is called for, since the driver must keep a close eye on runners, spectators, the traffic police and media motorbikes – all vying for prime positions.”
“There was constant two-way communication via radio between the truck cabs and the press on the back of the trucks, to relay instructions,” Wright adds,
“We look forward to continuing our association with this iconic event,” Wright concludes.
