The good folk at Manline Freight can stand tall and proud after having recently undertaken a Safety and Quality Assessment System (SQAS) audit where they received a total score of 97.4 which far exceeds the industry norm.
“We are proud of achieving such a high score as it reflects the hard work, focus and commitment of our team to running a world-class operation,” says Grant Clarke, managing director of Manline Freight.
Currently, chemical manufacturers of both hazardous and non-hazardous products are the primary adopters of the SQAS standard. This is to ensure that transporters are moving their product responsibly. To receive accreditation, stringent processes need to be in place and must be proved to be in use in a 348-point audit. These cover Risk, Operations, Maintenance, Planning, Equipment and Management.
“SQAS provides manufacturers with extra peace of mind that their product has reduced exposure to being involved in an accident during transit – protecting their organisational image and limiting the risk of chemicals contaminating the environment and communities,” says Clarke.
“The fact that we scored so highly is a great affirmation that the stringent measures and our attention to detail on safety across our business is paying off,” adds Sue Oosthuizen, head of risk at Barloworld Transport.
SQAS is an international system used to evaluate the quality, safety, security and environmental performance of logistics service providers and chemical distributors in a uniform manner. SQAS uses single standardised assessments that are carried out by independent assessors.
