Daimler’s natural alternatives

Hybrid trucks such as this Freightliner are becoming more and more in vogue in the USA in line with the greening of the industry.

Although we don’t have much to do with buses in FleetWatch, we thought this story would be of interest merely to show the massive move towards greening heavy vehicles in the USA. In what is the largest contract for natural gas buses in the company’s history, Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) and Daimler Buses recently sold 130 compressed natural gas (CNG) school buses to the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The CNG’s produce almost zero emissions and have complied with the US EPA 2010 emissions standards since 2007. In a separate “green order’ order, DTNA supplied four Freightliner Business Class M2 106 Hybrid trucks to the city of Denver for use in forestry, traffic signal and traffic sign repair.
