The shortage of qualified diesel mechanics is impacting severely on the ability of operators to maintain their vehicles. Many operators hold the view that a return to the ‘apprenticeship’ system will help solve this skills shortage problem. What are your thoughts on this?

  1. Good Day I am a Diesel mechanic with over thirty five years experience, were I see a problem in today’s word is with the electronics, on the new diesels you have to specialise on one model . So when you work on a model you do not know you are working in the dark. Also it is impossible to work without a diagnostic tool. This eliminates many people out of the diesel market.
